We've been playing with a bit of hardware for receipt printing and barcode scanning in order to get the auto-generation working.
This is a sample of the hardware we plan to bundle with RoverTag™:
- Viliv S5 Premium UMPC.
- Citizen CMP-10BT Mobile Thermal Printer. Bluetooth connectivity and Mag Swipe options available.
- Motorola Symbol MiniScan 120xFZY Fixed Barcode Scanner (Retrieval of prints for POS, pickup station).
Mag Swipe hardware will be addressed in a separate thread.
Our goal is to make this a simple and straight-forward process: Shoot your images, print a barcoded receipt, hand the receipt to your customer.

Setup options for your receipt printing will include:- Company Logo
- Company Text
- Detail Information
- Toggle Thumbnail Preview (will always choose first image of session)
- 14-digit barcode starting point
Lastly, we've been using a
3 of 9 Barcode Font created by Matt Welch. The font is free for all to use.
Be sure to start and end your barcodes with an asterisk(*), otherwise, some scanners will not be able to read your barcode. RoverTag will automatically tag your codes appropriately.
Also, it is important to note that we've had greatest success with a font size of 22pts- any bigger and the barcode will soft-wrap on the receipt. Any smaller and it becomes difficult to scan.
