Using borders in Event Photography can increase your sales, bolster your bottom line. Borders can create a memorable experience by adding a venue logo, theme, or date to your photographs.

Creating borders for PrintRipper is relatively easy. In this tutorial we will assume that you are familiar with Photoshop, which is what we will use to create your borders.

Creating a Border: Preschool Graduation Event

image-create a new photoshop document for your event borderimage: Border layer in PhotoshopFirst, we will create a document that will be the same size (inches)and resolution of that we wish to print.

In Photoshop, create a new layer. On this layer, start to build your border elements. You can create more layers as needed, but be sure to carefully label them as they are created. In this example, we have a basic blue border with a feathered edge. Notice that we have a transparent center. You will need this in order to allow your photo to show through your finished border.image: Photoshop layers showing a white background-remove it!

If you have a white background (your background layer is white), now would be a good time to either hide it or delete it from the project. We've added our elements and are satisfied with the results. We can now save our border for PrintRipper.

Saving Your Event Border: File Type Matters!

Use Photoshop's PNG-24 preset and be sure transparency is ON. Save and name your file. For our event, we will be using green screen. Because of this, we will also need a background.

We created a background to go with our newly created border. To use this border in PrintRipper, we need to save it as a JPG file.

Importing Your Event Border into PrintRipper

image: add border to PrintRipperAll that is needed is to import your files into PrintRipper. To do this, open PrintRipper and create a new process.

In PrintRipper's Setup Window, configure your settings under the General Tab. If you need more information regarding PrintRipper's setup, please consult the PrintRipper User Guide.

Next, click on the Borders tab in the PrintRipper Setup Window. Our border is a portrait border, but you can create a landscape border as well. PrintRipper will automatically detect your photo's orientation and apply the appropriate border.image: Add background to PrintRipper

Click the Enable Print Borders check and then click on the portrait border button to add your border. If you are using a green screen, you can then proceed to the Chroma Key tab. Again, we are only using a portrait background for our example but you may use both portrait and landscape backgrounds. PrintRipper will automatically detect your photo's orientation and apply the appropriate background.

You're almost done! Click the "OK" button in the lower-right of the Setup Window to apply your settings. You will be greeted with a page setup dialog box. Be sure you choose your intended printer as well as the appropriate output size (8x10 in this case).

Congratulations! You succeeded in creating a border and background for PrintRipper. You are now ready to process hundreds, even thousands of photos on-demand and delivered instantly!
